These scenic photos were taken during sunrise at Newfound Gap in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the first day of autumn , September, 22, 2012. Late September through October continually gets more and more beautiful in the Smokies as the trees begin to paint a collage of incredible colors from mountain high to valley low. If you have a chance to make the trip, we highly recommend that you do.

Tip – While visiting the area, be sure to drive through the Cades Cove Scenic Loop. Take a look at our photos of Cades Cove in late summer and Cades Cove in the fall.
